I Am Competing in the 2017 Gold’s Gym Challenge
I’ve wanted to enter a bodybuilding competition since 2009 when I declared it one of my New Year’s Resolutions, but I put it off, year after year. Until 3 weeks ago: I harnessed competition and teamwork to up my game and entered the Gold’s Gym Challenge, a 12-week bodybuilding/transformation contest.
There was a lot of fear about this: Could I maintain the strict diet and workout routines? Can I allow myself to be humble and bring a Beginner’s Mind to this sport I know so well, seeking out the guidance on the vast number of questions I don’t have answers to?
Last year, I learned to live and thrive without drinking alcohol. Enjoying and growing into a sober lifestyle has inspired me to rock new physical achievements, and I’m taking better care of myself than ever. Giving up alcohol proved to myself that together with my spiritual practice, I am capable of the discipline it takes to achieve great things.
Now it gets interesting! For each of the next 9 weeks, I’m going to chronicle my journey with blog posts, photos on social media and videos along the way. And throughout the process, I am reminding myself that the point of having a goal is not necessarily just the achievement of it. It’s that in achieving the goal, you become something more.
