I started making seagull stencils a few weeks ago after seeing a painting by Henri Matisse. A friend pointed out that the gulls were strikingly similar to my own realizations regarding love and detachment. As I continued to explore the meaning of gulls, I was surprised to find out that in Native spirituality, seagulls represent integrity, purity, and opportunity. Reading further, I found this:
In Native American spirituality, seagulls are regarded as spiritual messengers that indicate a higher communication with spirit guides is taking place. Because seagulls see above situations with a higher clarity, they can teach us that there are many perspectives to consider. Gulls shows a sense of friendship and community and the cooperation that is needed for the whole to operate successfully. They demonstrate how to ride the currents of the mental, emotional and physical worlds. (From Animal Totems)
Meditation: Are you going with the flow or fighting it? Are you cooperating with others? Are you open to your guides? Seagulls can teach many lessons of looking, living and being. Listen and watch for the nuances and timing of right actions.
