I’m a Card Carrying Member of the Gay Wine Club

GROWING UP IN UTAH you might not imagine we drank much alcohol, but I started relatively young. There’s a subset of Mormonism, we affectionately called “Jack Mormons” who imbibe in all the pleasures denied the rest: caffeine, coffee, beer and wine.

About the time I turned 7, I remember my Mom telling me she’d prefer my mouth on a bottle of beer than a Pepsi—so beer swilling after a sweaty day in the yard was standard fare. It’s not until recently, though, that I’ve refined my palette for wine.

Yesterday, I got a last minute email from Calvin, who manages Heritage Wine & Spirits in Old Town Pasadena. It’s a charming little store with an incredible selection of wines with prices to suit any budget. There’s a bar with a tasting area and a fine array of aperitifs and cheeses to accompany any bottle you might sample.
