The fun and rewarding part about coaching people like Dr. Wyatt is getting to explore these "bigger questions" together. I believe my role as a coach is ultimately to inspire my athletes to become independent of my services. My intention in exploring this with Justin was to delineate between taking personal responsibility for one's choices, versus making reasons and circumstances responsible for one's choices. There will always be justifications for poor lifestyle choices, but as one of my mentors is fond of saying to me, "reasons, or results?" I think Justin's nuanced approach, distinguishing between short and long term consequences, is valuable and insightful, and a perspective I had not considered. I am lucky to work with such incredible, smart people!
