exercise: forward bridge

img 1913.thumbnail exercise: forward bridgeWITH ORIGINS IN YOGA, THE “FORWARD BRIDGE” or “PLANK” is an excellent exercise for building core strength. It’s mild enough for a beginner, and hard enough for even an advanced athlete. The best part? It can be done anywhere—you need no special equipment.

The name for this exercise originates from the position of the body, which looks like a “bridge” or “plank.”

Learn how to do it…

TO PERFORM THE BRIDGE: Get down on the floor with your forearms positioned as a triangle ahead of you. Your feet should be close to each other. Lift your body up until you are supported by your forearms and your toes are touching the ground. Hold this position for 30 seconds. Remember to keep your stomach “tight” throughout the exercise and focus on your breath. Perform 3 sets of 30 seconds each. As you increase your endurance, add more time to your set.
