The Inside Scoop on Easton Gym, Los Angeles

“I’VE BEEN A MEMBER OF EASTON GYM FOR SEVEN YEARS now, and it’s fantastic,” says PLL Contributing Editor Eric Mueller. “The owners, David and Toby, are terrific guys, and the whole staff is awesome. Everyone at the front desk (hi Carla!) is incredibly super-friendly and nice and always makes ya feel welcome…“The gym is about 50/50 trainers with clients, and also about 50/50 gay. There’s also a solid celebrity contingent, though it’s SO low-key that they blend in with everyone else. Small (workout) towels are free and I think you can get a large (bath-sized) towel for $1, though I’ve never done this.

“They keep a refrigerated case full of bottles of water, protein shakes, etc., and if you have a month-to-month account with them, they can charge it to your account (so you don’t have to carry money or a wallet, nice).”The spin classes are great, esp Nick’s (love the candles in evening classes) and Mimi’s (the BEST music I’ve ever heard in any spin class, so eclectic but it totally works).

“What’s nice is that because this is such a neighborhood gym, the classes are usually quite intimate—my class this morning was 3 of us with the instructor, and yesterday, 5 of us. It’s great. I’ve worked out with two of the personal trainers, Joy and Kyle, and they’re both fantastic.

THE PROS: friendly, fantastic and low-key staff; great equipment; super charming with brick walls and tons of windows (the cross-breeze feels great!); smart trainers; free towels; clean men’s locker room (haven’t been in the women’s, heh); gorgeous sun deck on the roof with a nice view of the Hollywood sign; tons of free weights and all the machines and other things you need.

“THE CONS: the ONLY negatives that come to mind are that there’s no A/C, so during that two week “heat wave” we get every August, it’s a bit warm, and parking can be a little tricky during prime times (but you can always find a spot some place). Neither of these minor quibbles should stop you from joining.”

OVERALL RATING: 5 OUT OF 5 STARS

Eric Mueller has been in L.A. for 18 years and working out for just about the entire time. When he’s not in the gym, you’ll find him playing with his Acappella radio stations.
