Rest in Peace, TIM RUSSERT (1950-2008)

Behind that white brow
now the mind simply sleeps -
the eyes, closed,
the lips, the mouth,
the chin, no longer useful,
the prow of the nose.
But rumors of the news,
unrealizable,
cling still among those
silent, butted features, a
sort of wonder at
this scoop
come now, too late:
beneath the lucid ripples
to have found so monstrous
an obscurity.

-William Carlos Williams, To A Dead Journalist

Requiem Aeternam Dona Eis.

Tim Russert, an American treasure who understood how to build bridges with words when roads were often impassable. His example showed us important lessons about life, human beings behaving with kindness and dignity toward one another, unafraid to pass over our frailities, or our spoken or written words. He met them head on with difficult questions that give us pause to exam our very conscience. He leaves us with his legacy in the wisdom he has selectively written. We can choose to make a difference in our own lives and those we love if we walk across the bridge to the other side which where the hostage is waiting patiently to be released. Tim, you are an American Hero. Sunday Morning will never be quite the same.
