Can Lucky Charms Reduce Your Cholesterol?
Bron’s penchant for ‘Lés Charms’ in the grocery aisle last week made me wonder: Is there a way to make Lucky Charms healthier? There had to be a way.
I began to survey the cereal aisle: what other cereals are similar to Lucky Charms sans marshmallows?
The answer: Cheerios. The bonus? Cheerios claim to reduce your free cholesterol in six weeks. I offered him my solution:
“Let’s mix two boxes of Cheerios for every one box of Lucky Charms.”
Both cereal components are oat-based, (the main difference being that Cheerios are not covered in that light syrup that Charms are).
My idea was partially successful. Turns out, the “magically delicious” part of Lucky Charms is that oddly chemical, sugary sweet, “are-they-marshmallows-or-something-else?” crunchy deliciousness. Mixing them with Cheerios makes them a little less satisfying. But it made me happy knowing we were at least making an effort to blend vice with virtue.
Another idea: add a little trail mix to morning Cheerios or oatmeal—it’s more satisfying, giving you the additional power you need.

Now they're after your Cheerios- maybe we'd better stay with Trix the Rabbit and avoid that pesky leprechaun all together!
