Ask the Trainer: Should I Take Monavie or Açai?
HEY SAM: Do you know anything about the benefits of Monavie and the Açai Berry from the Amazon region?
—Robert, Highland Park
Monavie and the Acai berry are antioxidants “in the spotlight” right now in American health & fitness circles. All antioxidants are beneficial, because they slow down cholesterol deposits and narrowing of the arteries which can lead to heart problems. Keep in mind that while these two may be the “hot supplements” right now, there are tons of fruits, veggies and herbs which contain antioxidants. Things like onions, tomatoes, garlic, rosemary, grapes and pomegranates.
“You don’t necessarily need an expensive “new” supplement to get your daily dose of antioxidants.”
Fruits and veggies that contain a range of antioxidants actually work together synergistically and so combinations of certain antioxidants produce better results than when those same antioxidants are taken separately. So include a variety of fruits and veggies in your diet, not just those being spotlighted in the media.

Hi Sam,
I have been a massage therapist for over 8 years, so while I might not have the background in nutrition that you do, I still try to take a holistic approach to health, which includes a solid nutritional foundation.
I agree with your analysis of trendy ingredients. That is actually what attracted me to MonaVie though. Unlike other juice products that essentially contain one ingrdients and a filler or two, MonaVie is a blend of 19 fruits and berries, not just one that is hot. So, it gives you the variety of anti-oxidants that you were referring to. Sure, the acai has great properties, but it is the synergistic blend that is the real strength of this product.
You mention that it is expensive, but I would ask, compared to what? Could I buy these 19 ingredients individually at my local store and squeeze them myself? It’s debatable whether or could, but for arguments sake let’s suppose I could do this. What would the ingrdients cost me and how much time and energy would I expend trying to emulate this blend myself?
To me, MonaVie is a product of convenience. If someone is the type of person who wants to spend an hour each morning juicing 19 different fruits, more power to them. Personally, I’d rather have it done for me so that I know the proportions are right and the quality is assured, and I’m willing to pay a few bucks a day for that.
Just my perspective. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and am open to further discussion with you and/or your readers.

If I’m spending $45 on bottle of whatever this stuff is…..it better be liquid gold or some fabulous liquor!

Spend $45 per bottle …. to see if it works for you. But honestly it may take 2 bottles to notice a difference.
If you have the company ship you a case per month all of a sudden it costs $30 per. If you buy 2 cases it casts about $27, etc…. dependds on how much you buy.
I have several friends who don’t want to sign up and that’s fine. They get me to buy it in bulk and pass the savings onto them.
The big thing is they are drinking it and it is healthy.
I worked hard for my money and friends I don”t want to lose either before their time.
When I find a good fishing hole, I don’t share even with my closest friends. When I find something good for our health I will share every time.
I have even built a website for my friends.
You see we’re in Canada. It’s sometimes very expensive to get fresh fruit up here. Mona Vie is one of the BEST ways to get what your body needs in a synergystic blend, in a simple way.
Check out the list of ingredients. By them separately and you’d find that the cost would be HUGE in comparison.
Cheers Rick

Great information. I found your site very interesting. With the right information Thanks.Acai Berry does not possess excellent nutritional value only, it is a delicious tasting fruit as well. It has both berry and chocolate flavor. It is used in smoothies, deserts and eaten as fruit.
