5.2 temblor rattles viatape; canadian remains missing; food supply impacted
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008
A 5.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRUCK NEAR BORA BORA MONDAY morning, with aftershocks felt sporadically into Tuesday morning. Bronson got some of these “ocean aftershocks” (visible as “micro-tsunamis”) on video. Ironically, we’re about to enter Tsunami Preparation Month (April).
We’re aiming to get off the island of Viatape by 4PM today (7PM PDT), with a 7:10PM departure from Bora Bora Airport to Papeete, then a red eye back to LAX. This is assuming everything going according to plan. If we are delayed or bumped off our flights, Tahiti will be a better location for us, as there will be water and power, and access to medical facilities, etc.
It’s amazing to me that the hotel has not asked us to conserve power (yet) but I’m definitely noticing the impact on the food choices and selection.
